Aspirational Clean Eating in a Cheerful Space — Dog and Kid-Friendly
Located at Lake Woodlands Crossing at 1900 Lake Woodlands Drive, Flower Child is on a soul-satisfying mission to spread delicious vibes and healthy food in The Woodlands. Open Monday through Sunday from 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.
After the success of Flower Child’s first Houston-area location in Uptown, this healthful and happy fast-casual restaurant opened its Woodlands location doors on March 6th in the Lake Woodlands Crossing on Lake Woodlands Drive at Grogan’s Mill Road.
I took my husband, Darren, and our 2 young sons, Oscar (9) and Max (12) with me to try a few dishes and check this highly anticipated place out.
We eat with our eyes first… and Flower Child does not disappoint! From the moment you park your car, you enter a bright industrial-meets-boho-chic eatery filled with many colorful Instagram worthy wall murals. This is an order-at-the-counter-style restaurant with indoor seating, pet-friendly outdoor seating, as well as a separate to-go line. Flower Child’s menu centers on a variety of bowls, wraps, grains and greens made with fresh and responsibly-sourced ingredients that aim to revitalize the body, mind and soul.
I ordered the Madras Yellow Curry Bowl with an addition of the Sustainable Salmon. It featured heirloom carrots, green beans, broccoli, baby potatoes on brown rice with cilantro. The dish was eye-catching upon delivery, the curry fragrant and delicious and a generous sized portion. Darren ordered the Vietnamese Crunch Salad and commented on the nice mix of flavors and textures featuring savoy cabbage, romaine, quinoa, tomato, pineapple, avocado, cashew, cilantro and mint tossed in a spicy lemongrass vinaigrette.
Truth be told, I made Max order the Mother Earth bowl with a Grass-Fed Steak addition, because I wanted to see what it looked like (and our boy does like steak). It took some coaxing, but he finally agreed to try the mix of sweet potato, Portobello mushrooms, avocado, broccoli pesto and charred onion sprinkled with hemp seeds underneath the delicious beef, and, remarkably (striking testimony to Flower Child’s killer food presentation skills) this picky 12-year-old eater actually tried something new – and a vegetable to boot! Darren and I were apoplectic with joy! Oscar, our youngest, found the kids “Pick a Protein + 2 Sides” menu easy and delicious with his choice of All-Natural Chicken served with Gluten-Free Mac & Cheese and Sweet Corn & Quinoa side dishes. I’m not proud, but I’ll admit it, when no one was looking I finished his Mac & Cheese! It’s heavy on the cheddar side and very creamy. Thumbs up. Way up!
They have Kombucha on tap (of course they do!), Fresh Juices, Texas Beers, Wines and amazing Seasonal Lemonades and Teas! In addition to great food, interesting drinks and atmosphere, guests can expect exceptional service with a smile! The employees are knowledgeable, friendly and fashionable.
Eating at Flower Child has made me want to toss out the entire contents of my pantry and start fresh so I can eat clean and healthy, start exercising daily, drink more water and put “The Dirty Dozen” organic food app on my phone. In other words, when you eat healthy – you start thinking healthy. Well, at least for me, one meal there has me feeling crazy-healthy like a Flying Avocado (the name of a wrap they offer I saw float past our table; next time lover).
