Bringing awareness to a local cause, Howard Hughes has donated showroom window space along retail at Hughes Landing to showcase photography supporting BEAR, a nonprofit organization. BEAR, which stands for Be A Resource, addresses emergency needs of at-risk children in child protective services (CPS) and their caretakers in the Greater Houston area.
On the windows, photos of children are artfully displayed as part of the Heart Gallery of Greater Houston, one of four programs within BEAR. The traveling exhibit seeks to find forever families for children needing adoption. Since its inception, Heart Gallery has helped 112 children to be adopted.
Three other programs that provide basic necessities, support and comfort to children during uncertain times include BEAR Necessities, which provides everyday items such as formula, shoes and car seats; BEARing Gifts provides brand new gifts for children for the holidays; and BEAR Back to School ensures children have the needed supplies to start school with confidence.

Included on one of the windowpanes is a QR code, offering passersby an opportunity to make a donation on-the-spot. From their website, “…at any given moment, there are 16,000 children involved in CPS-related cases, over 1,000 of which are removed from their home in emergency situations.” You can find critically needed items to donate and learn more about how you can help by visiting bearesourcehouston.org.
Howard Hughes has donated the space as part of its HHCares program, the social responsibility initiative within Howard Hughes that donates and volunteers to over 155 local causes each year.
