Howard Hughes and The Woodlands Township would like to thank our corporate partners for their support of The Woodlands 50th Anniversary celebration. In this series, we highlight our partners and the positive impact they make in our community throughout the year.

Waste Connections relocated its corporate headquarters to The Woodlands in 2012 for the affordability of homes for their employees, good schools, and the ease of commuting to a job where you live nearby.

While their core business provides advanced processing techniques to recover waste safely and sustainably, giving back to the community is an important component of their company’s culture of caring.

Waste Connections supports numerous local causes and charitable organizations that assist women and youth at risk, those with food insecurities, and veterans in need. A few of their initiatives includes:

  • Waste Connections Annual Golf Classic for Kids currently raises $2M annually, of which, most of the funds stay in our community and are donated primarily to women’s and children’s charities.  This event has taken place in the Woodlands since 2013 and is fully underwritten by the company.
  • Waste Connections Holiday Bike Build began in 2001, with local employees building hundreds of bikes each holiday season that are given to various charities in the area. Now a company-wide event that also includes their vendor partners, and children of employees, Waste Connections has assembled and donated more than 85,000 bicycles to children across the nation.
  • Monthly, employees give their time and talent by volunteering for a number of local charities.

Supporting The Woodlands 50th Anniversary

When planning for The Woodlands 50th Anniversary began a year and a half ago, Waste Connections was one of the first companies to offer their support in celebrating this momentous milestone.

“We chose to be a sponsor of The Woodlands 50th Celebration because our headquarters has been located here for over twelve years,” said Ron Mittelstaedt, Waste Connections President and CEO. “We witness our employees and their families thriving here. We have watched our corporate office more than double in size with the growth of the company. We have so much to be proud of and are proud to be part of The Woodlands Community. Of course we want to celebrate this amazing place!”

Over our 50-year history, The Woodlands has been voted several times as one of the best places to live in the country. Sharing his thoughts on The Woodlands, Mittelstaedt feels the beauty of the master planned community’s design, with its hike and bike paths lined with trees set alongside businesses and corporations that provide jobs, access to world class medical facilities and private school options, all contribute to differentiating The Woodlands from any other place in Texas or across the country. “The Woodlands promoted itself as a place to “live, work and play.” This isn’t just a motto, it is truly a reality all our employees and their families have come to enjoy,” said Mittelstaedt.

The Woodlands Philanthropic Nature

Waste Connections has been amazed by the philanthropic nature of The Woodlands community and the ability to see so many within the community – both individuals and businesses – working together to serve with non-profits to lift the lives of others. With the same culture of caring, it’s no wonder the Waste Connections family feels right at home here in The Woodlands.

Thank you to Waste Connections for the positive impact you continue to make in our community each and every day.
