30th Season Marks Generous Giving — The Pavilion’s Community Impact
When you purchase a ticket to an event at The Pavilion, you are not only set to experience world-class entertainment under an iconic tent, but you are also contributing to incredible educational programming benefitting our community and beyond!
Since 1974, George P. Mitchell, founder of The Woodlands, along with his wife Cynthia Woods Mitchell, for whom The Pavilion is named, dreamed of creating a first-class performing arts facility for The Woodlands. They envisioned the venue as a place for classical performances and educational events, as well as popular music. In 1990, their dream became a reality. This year, as The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion celebrates its 30th season, its educational outreach, an integral part of its core purpose, also marks its milestone birthday.
The Pavilion believes The Arts has an impact on people’s lives—especially on young peoples’ lives. As a result, The Pavilion has developed educational programs to support students of the arts, offer academic and social incentives, foster new audiences and provide community enrichment opportunities.
Educational programs include:
Musical Scores—Model academically at-risk middle students enjoy a special event at The Pavilion in celebration of their hard work. This beloved program has grown from serving 200 students to 6,000 students and teachers.
Chamberfest—Chamberfest is a week-long chamber music camp for students grades 7 through 12 who play violin, viola, cello or bass.
Fine Arts Education Day—The Houston Symphony introduces orchestral music to 4th graders before they chose their elective in 5th grade.
Music in Motion—A sseries of Master classes for high school band and orchestra students is led by Houston Symphony musicians and guests.
Children’s Festival School Days—Two days of field trips to The Pavilion during The Children’s Festival feature award-winning educational entertainers and hands-on engagement with The Arts.
Hats Off to Reading—This annual celebration gives children a free book and participation in myriad literacy-based activities.
Partners Instrument Petting Zoo—The official volunteer organization of The Pavilion, The Pavilion Partners, holds a fun “Instrument and Petting Zoo Experience” in The Pavilion Plazas before most performing arts events. Guests are able to see, hold and play numerous musical instruments. This event is always free and open to the public.
Fine Arts Scholarships—Each year, The Pavilion Partners raises funds to provide area students with fine arts scholarships.
The Pavilion is also known as The Center for the Performing Arts at The Woodlands and is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization governed by a volunteer board of directors. The Pavilion Partners is the name of the volunteer organization.
