Fourth of July festivities are bountiful in The Woodlands® with a spectacular lineup of events for celebrating freedom with your family and friends.
Star-Spangled Salute
The 2019 holiday schedule of entertainment and activity kicks off on Independence Eve. In keeping with tradition, the Houston Symphony will perform a Star-Spangled Salute concert on Tuesday, July 3. Led by conductor Steven Reineke, the concert features a selection of patriotic favorites, American Classics, sing-alongs, and of course, Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” complete with cannons from atop the hill.
Free and open to the public, The Howard Hughes Corporation® is proud to be the major sponsor of this patriotic concert since its inception 30 years ago as part of The Pavilion’s Performing Arts Season.
Gates open at 6:30 pm for pre-concert activities in the North and South Plazas. The lovable mascot of The Woodlands, Puffy Pine Cone®, will be available for photos during the pre-concert activities. The Houston Symphony will take the Main Stage at 8 pm to play a selection of patriotic favorites.
Grab the whole family and bring a blanket (no beverages allowed) and picnic to enjoy while listening to the symphony perform a variety of Americana favorites. Lawn chairs for those sitting on the hill will be provided free of charge. South County Fourth of July Parade
You’ll want to rise and shine early on Thursday, July 4. The South County Fourth of July Parade rolls out in The Woodlands Town Center beginning at 9 am. Themed “United We Stand” this year, the 1.3-mile parade features marching bands, fire engines, clowns, horses and floats. It begins and ends at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. A tent will be set up in front of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion for senior citizens and the physically challenged to obtain relief from the summer heat. Put on your red, white and blue and get there early to scout out your perfect viewing spot.
Splash Day
After the parade, you can cool down with Splash Day at any of the 13 community pools with no charge for admission from 10 am to 6 pm. Each pool will present a different family-oriented theme and have free fun activities and games from noon until 4 pm along with light refreshments (while supplies last).
Red, Hot and Blue Festival
Later, the 22nd annual Red, Hot and Blue Festival continues the celebration throughout the evening at several locations in The Woodlands featuring entertainment and activities, concluding with a Fireworks Extravaganza.
North Shore Park will present a free music concert at 5:30 pm, following the “Things That Go” bike parade. The family fun will include face painting, food trucks and musical entertainment by Cold Shot.
Overlooking the beautiful Lake Woodlands Hughes, Landing® will feature live musical entertainment along Restaurant Row by The Kelley Peters Band at 5:30 pm.
Town Green Park’s sprawling lawn will have a wide variety of activities, including strolling entertainers, face painters, balloon artists, inflatables (wristbands are $10), a kids’ zone, food vendors and two stages for music from Cap City Band and The Fantastics.
Waterway Square® will be buzzing with entertainment by Willow Creek Junction as well as face painting, a balloon artist and concessions.
At the Rob Fleming Park, you can enjoy the country and Indie music tunes of Keeton Coffman, along with face painting and food trucks.
Fireworks Extravaganza
Finally, at approximately 9:30 pm at Red, Hot and Blue Festival’s celebration, Independence Day will culminate with an 18-minute Fireworks Extravaganza that will launch at multiple locations. The main display will be in Lake Woodlands adjacent to Northshore Park, with a secondary, close-proximity display with special effects at Town Green Park. There will also be a fireworks display in the Waterway Square District near Timberloch Place and Waterway Avenue and at the Rob Fleming Park in the Village of Creekside Park. KSTAR Country 99.7 FM will broadcast the choreographed patriotic soundtrack for the Fireworks Extravaganza.
