Healthy living is just outside your door in The Woodlands! From 220 miles of hike and bike trails to 147 parks and 14 pools along with five spraygrounds, there is an abundance of outdoor fitness and recreation options to discover here.
The trails are great for strolling with the kiddos and pets in tow, getting in a power walk with a friend or for a mind-clearing jog. Trails are also great for a bike ride. For bike enthusiasts, there’s a dedicated BMX course with rolling dirt hills at Cranebrook Park in the Village of Sterling Ridge.
Many of these nature-laced, lush trails are interconnected so it’s easy to get to a park or neighborhood village center. And, you’re sure to see some small wildlife and local birds such as blue jays and cardinals. For a longer hike, check out the trails in the award-winning George Mitchell Nature Preserve.
With the purchase of a summer season pass, The Woodlands has an abundance of ways to cool down at the pools throughout the villages. Many of the pools in The Woodlands have dedicated lap lanes for paced swimming. There are several zero-entry water playgrounds and spraygrounds to take kids to for fun and to keep them busy and moving. The Rob Fleming Aquatic Center in The Village of Creekside Park® is popular with its lazy river and tower slide. It’s fun to explore all the pools in rotation.
In addition to play equipment and swings for little ones, several parks have large open lawns that are perfect for playing frisbee or catch. Others include cool areas for skateboards For serious practicing, check out Bear Branch skate park in the Village of Cochran’s Crossing.
Several parks have lighted tennis and basketball courts, as well as places for kayaking and canoeing. Speaking of water, if you enjoy water activities, head on over to Riva Row Boat House and Lakes Edge Boat House.
Fido can also enjoy getting out for some exercise and doggie socializing at one of six dog parks, which include separate areas for small dogs as well as off-leash areas for them to run free.
When you step outside to enjoy an abundance of sunshine, be sure to bring plenty of water to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. See you outdoors!
