When and Where You Want — Customized Tutoring

Some children are visual learners, while others are auditory or tactile. Some have learning disabilities and many have rigorous extra-curricular activities.

Dictionary.com defines the word entrepreneur as a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.

This is not just a person who opens a business out of love (e.g. a yogi, who opens a yoga school). This is a special type of business person who identifies and fulfills a need in a specific market – one who will find success or failure in that market, and then, perhaps move to a completely different one. It’s the need, the hole in the market, that is the driver for them.

Eva Bisso is one of these people. She is an entrepreneur in The Woodlands area, who launched At-Home Tutoring Services after she experienced frustration trying to find a reputable math tutor for her own sons who attend a private school in The Woodlands.

“I was struggling to provide proper math homework help to my children. I started looking for great tutors in The Woodlands area. I only found a few and they were not available at the times that worked for my family,” explains Bisso. “I saw a hole in the market and decided to fill it.”

Bisso describes how one type of learning just doesn’t work for everyone. Some children are visual learners, while others are auditory or tactile. Some have learning disabilities and many have rigorous extra-curricular activities. She really wanted a curated approach to tutoring. So, she created it.

Originally from Wilmington, Delaware, Bisso studied economics and Spanish literature at Tulane University in Louisiana. Years later, Hurricane Katrina moved her and her family to Texas. Quickly, Bisso took to The Woodlands’ friendly way of life and became involved in equestrian sports and the parent association for sports at her children’s school.

Bisso’s At-Home Tutoring Services provides tutors in all academic subjects, including home school needs, preparation for standardized college entrance exams, organizational and executive functioning skills, efficient study habits, college readiness and navigating the college application and essay process.

Each tutoring session is conducted at the locale of the parent’s choice and the tutors are able to work closely with teachers, schools’ learning specialists, diagnosticians, speech pathologists, and/or psychologists to effectively deliver customized educational support.

“I’m really a matchmaker,” says Bisso. “I match qualified tutors to children and young adults struggling in a particular area at times and locations convenient for the family.”

The Woodlander salutes Eva Bisso’s entrepreneurial spirit and “can-do” Texas attitude.
