Howard Hughes and The Woodlands Township would like to thank our corporate partners for their support of The Woodlands 50th Anniversary celebration. In this series, we highlight our partners and the positive impact they make in our community throughout the year.

When planning began for The Woodlands 50th Anniversary, Entergy Texas immediately signed on to support this community-wide celebration. But their commitment extends far beyond the 50th celebration. An important component of Entergy Texas’ mission is giving back to the communities they serve through philanthropy, volunteerism, and supporting local charities, aligning their initiatives to the United Nations’ Sustainability Goals.

Through their Entergy Cares initiative, volunteers and contributions helped communities by supporting education with over $800,000 in scholarships and school supplies; $124,000 for healthy families; and over $400,000 in community involvement.

“We’ve always believed in giving back to the place our employees call home,” said Eliecer Viamontes, President and CEO of Entergy Texas. In the last year, Entergy Texas contributed $3.2M to more than 170 nonprofits and community organizations in Southeast Texas.

Employees and retirees volunteer with local non-profits to help lift others through their Community Connectors program. Last year, current and former employees dedicated more than 17,400 volunteer hours at the Southeast Texas Food Bank and Montgomery County Food Bank to help fight food insecurities; Habitat for Humanity and assisted with free tax preparation so qualifying customers could claim federal Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC).

The Power to Care Program

Entergy’s The Power to Care program matches monetary gifts from generous donors up to $1M, providing emergency bill payment assistance to older adults and customers with disabilities in their time of need, and by providing box fans to give relief from the heat while helping to keep costs down for low-income customers.

Committed to improving lives, the company also invests in the community through workforce development, creating poverty solutions, disaster relief, protecting and preserving the environment, healthy families, and the arts.

Top 10 Most Generous Workplace

Entergy has received numerous awards for their considerable extensive commitment to the community-at-large. For the past 10 years, Entergy has been listed by the United Way as a top 10 Most Generous Workplace, and an honoree for the past nine years on Points of Light’s The Civic 50 for community investment and volunteerism, just to name a few. “We’re excited to continue our journey together to build stronger communities and a brighter energy future for generations to come,” said Viamontes.

As The Woodlands’ jubilee celebration continues, Viamontes expressed that being a gold-level sponsor for The Woodlands 50th Anniversary is not just an honor, it’s a commitment to this community’s future.

Many thanks to Entergy Texas for its commitment to the residents and business of The Woodlands as we look to the future, creating a culture of living well.
