The Woodlands Family YMCA will host a mobile market at the Shadowbend YMCA parking lot on Saturday, May 23, starting around 9 am. Located at 6145 Shadowbend Place in The Woodlands, patrons will drive thru each station, never leaving their vehicles. Boxes of food will be loaded into their cars by volunteers and Y Staff. Each family could receive an assortment of fresh produce, dry/canned goods, frozen meat and breads/desserts, etc. – based on availability. Distribution of food will be on a first come, first serve basis with enough food to serve 300 families. Signage will be available to help with traffic flow. Social distancing guidelines will be strictly enforced.
As a non-profit organization, the Y depends on community support to continue to assist those in need. Collectively, The YMCA of Greater Houston has served over 110,000 individuals through their Produce Distribution Sites. Produce is provided by our partnership with Brighter Bites and Houston Food Bank.
Together, the Y fills a critical need for so many: children who depend on school provided meals, elderly people, people with diverse abilities, immigrants and refugees who rely on social services, and neighbors in the community who have a reduced or limited household income. The YMCA has partnered with the Houston Food Bank, Montgomery County Food Bank and other partners to provide critical food and supplies to thousands of families at five Opportunity Centers and numerous distribution sites throughout the city.
The Howard Hughes Corporation is proud to support the Y during these challenging times. If you are an individual or organization that would like to partner with the Y to support these efforts, please email [email protected].
