Modern Glamour in The Woodlands’ Garden District — Sold Fully Furnished Again!

“To have two homes sold ‘fully furnished’ is the ultimate compliment for an interior designer, “says Veselka.

When Houston-based and award-winning 30-year veteran interior designer Marjorie Slovack and her colleague Julie Veselka were asked to reflect back on a favorite design job, a Houston home did not spring to mind. Instead, they gushed about an East Shore home in the heart of The Woodlands, Texas’ Garden District.

“We spent about 6 months on this project and really enjoyed the beauty of The Woodlands,” explains Slovack. “Almost every day we’d eat lunch overlooking the stunning gardens and sweeping views of Lake Woodlands.”

It was the 4th design experience with clients whose previous home had a party guest fall so madly in love it—they asked to buy the home, fully furnished, on the spot! As it turned out, the homeowners’ next-door neighbor was moving so they agreed to the generous offer, packed their clothes and a few heirlooms, moved one door down and once again called upon Slovack-Bass to design the interior space of their new home!

Their new Charleston-style home had great traditional bones, but Slovack and Veselka’s “marching orders” were to create a more modern take on the time-honored elements. Quickly, the design duo excitedly injected color and life into the space with a warm grey palette on the walls, ceilings and trim, a neutral color wheel for all surrounding surfaces and selected mixed metal decorative fixtures from Spaces for the Home for the lighting elements.

In the living room, the fireplace wall was resurfaced to create a dramatic focal point seen from all the main living spaces. Then, they picked an anchor piece for the room—a Ladco live edge wood slab and Lucite cocktail table to add drama without blocking the fireplace. In the study, they chose a wallcovering by Phillip Jefferies which added tremendous interest, texture and warmth to the space. The desk came from Ladco with customized legs and a base to tie-in the other metallic notes in the room.

“A set of oversized antique leather-bound newspaper books have been with the clients for years, so we make sure to find the perfect area for them in every new home,” says Slovack. “This house was no exception and I love how they look against the soft rug.”

With bold colors, interesting textures and mixed metal finishes, Slovack and Veselka had once again created a remarkable space. A few years later, this home was also sold … fully furnished!

“To have two homes sold ‘fully furnished’ is the ultimate compliment for an interior designer, “says Veselka. “This house and its next-door neighbor are sweet remembrances for our design firm. We are grateful.”

The Woodlander sends best wishes to Marjorie Slovack and Julie Veselka and everyone at Slovack-Bass as they embark on their 5th home project for the same family—only a few streets away!
