Around Town — In Conversation with Cynthia Powell

Meet Panther Creek Villager Cynthia Powell, a Client Account Manager for an international insurance firm and married mother of 2 teenage boys. We caught up with her at Olmstead Park in East Shore where she shared her favorite spots to relax, recharge and reconnect with yourself in The Woodlands. She also answered our Woodlander questionnaire:

What are your favorite spots to relax and recharge at?

It’s important to take time out from our busy lives to relax and reconnect with ourselves. Whether it’s to meditate, take a nap, read, journal or just lay back and watch the clouds float in the sky, my top picks for places to recharge the spirit are:

  • Olmstead Park in East Shore
  • Wedgewood Forest Lake Park in the Village of Panther Creek
  • The Narthex inside Sts. Simon & Jude in the Village of Panther Creek (by the way, my late father-in-law, Dick Powell, served as the apostles’ model for artist Sylvia Cameron)
  • Koi Fish Garden in The Woodlands Town Center on The Woodlands Waterway
  • Hummingbird Tea Room & Café in May Valley

When and from where did you move to The Woodlands?

1979 from Bryan, Texas.

Favorite band or solo rocker from your teen years?

George Strait (and still a favorite today), and surprisingly BTS, the South Korean pop sensation!

Name a book on your bedside table, films and/or television series and/or podcasts in your streaming queue?

The Crown is in my queue and I’m currently reading Bossypants by Tina Fey.

Favorite dish from a local restaurant?

Pan-seared scallops at Truluck’s in Hughes Landing.

You win airline tickets to any destination. Where would you travel?

It’s a 3-way tie! Malta, Bali or South Korea

Favorite local store?

Madewell in Market Street.

What is on your bucket list?

A cooking class in the Italian Tuscan countryside.

Favorite area event?

Inspire Film Festival

Something not everyone knows about you.

I love design and art. I have designed and created some modern accessories in plexiglass. A few years ago, I was invited by New York artist Ryan McGinness to staff on his art project in Madrid, Spain.

Look for Cynthia Powell next time you are out and about. You never know who you’ll meet around town!
