Around Town — In Conversation with Ryan Elkins

Every month we meet people who live or work in The Woodlands as they answer our Around Town questionnaire.

Meet 24-year-old Ryan Elkins, a sales executive catching an early morning coffee at Blue Door Coffee at Waterway Square in Town Center on his way to work at PCS Software, Inc.

When and from where did you move to The Woodlands?

In 2004 I moved to The Woodlands from neighboring Spring, Texas.

Favorite band or solo rocker from your teen years? 

Britney Spears (Don’t judge; we all love her music. I’m just brave enough to admit it!)

Favorite local nature spot? 

The George Mitchell Nature Preserve for a trail hike or run with my Boxador (half Boxer, half Labrador) dog named Molly.

Name two books, films or television series on your nightstand to read or in your streaming queue? 

In my Netflix queue you’ll find” Shameless” and “Mr. Robot”.

Favorite dishes from local restaurants?

Fresh brewed coffee at Blue Door in the morning and then the blackened fish with crawfish etouffee at Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen for a flavorful lunch or dinner. #southerner

You win airline tickets to any destination. Where would you travel?

Manarola, Italy—to check out the historic hiking trails like Borgo Storico di Corniglia and the myriad religious sites.

Favorite local store? 

J. Crew. Their clothes have a timeless quality.

Something not everyone knows about you?

At the age of 19, I was a candidate for The Woodlands Township Board of Directors Position 3, making me the youngest person to ever run for this post. I love living in The Woodlands.

Favorite area event? 

The Woodlands Pride Festival.

What is on your bucket list?

Visit all 50 states, swim with a dolphin and enjoy a Venetian gondola ride.
