Nature in The Woodlands — Staying Healthy & Fit

With nearly 8,000 acres (28% of our community) devoted to green space, The Woodlands offers the perfect setting for staying healthy and fit in 2019.

For many, resolutions for the New Year mean a commitment to health and fitness. Blending the perfect path for fitness, health and mental well-being together with nature, The Woodlands offers 214 miles of hike-and-bike trails and 146 parks.

With the recent opening of the Creekside Park West Trailhead, located off Dr. Ann Snyder Way in the Village of Creekside Park, there are now even more options for convenient access to the award-winning George Mitchell Nature Preserve, part of the Spring Creek Greenway. Whether you grab your jogging or walking shoes to run on leaves and rustic trails beneath your feet, pedal your bike or just want to be an avid wildlife watcher while staying fit, the nature preserve provides miles of trails in Montgomery and Harris Counties, meandering along Spring Creek. You can even paddle your kayak in Spring Creek.

“We are so excited to bring this 13-mile, wilderness experience to the community along Spring Creek. The trail travels along and over the creek and features 20 bridges named for volunteers that collectively put more than 2,500 hours into trail construction,” said Jill Boullion, Executive Director of the Bayou Land Conservancy, the nonprofit partner of the Spring Creek Greenway project. “This is a trail built by the community for the community.”

Bring your family, friends and neighbors. All the hike-and bike trails in The Woodlands wind through more than 200 species of trees and shrubs and are excellent choices to promote family unity as well as strengthen friendships and neighborly relations while staying active outdoors.

Parks are intertwined throughout the trails and offer a chance for healthy recreation at the sports fields, playground equipment, basketball and tennis courts, with a chance to catch your breath and enjoy picnic areas complete with barbecue grills.
