Mesmerizing Mosaics — Under The Waterway Avenue Bridge
There are lots of hidden art gems strewn across The Woodlands. One special treasure is located under the Waterway Avenue Bridge. It is a collection of mosaics titled At Water’s Edge by nationally acclaimed artist Dixie Friend Gay.
This special assemblage is comprised of tiny byzantine glass pieces Gay groups together to form large mosaic panels in niches and along the tunnel walls that celebrate the diversity of wildlife at the water’s edge.
Gay also produces sculptures, paintings and drawings, but is perhaps best known for her myriad large-scale nature themed mosaic commissions including several at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, the Port of Miami, Indianapolis International Airport, Sam Houston State University and Texas A&M Galveston.
To celebrate, we offer up our photo journal of At Water’s Edge, a collection of nature mosaics by Dixie Friend Gay, and a photo of the artist herself.
